Beyond Dictators: Finding the "Exodus" in Our Daily Lives

"Let my people go" is a phrase that reverberates through the ages. It is the universal battle cry of the oppressed against their oppressors and a timeless promise that the human spirit will ultimately prevail.

This lesson is not reserved for dictators; it applies to all of us. Whether between parent and child, siblings, colleagues, or friends, a healthy relationship must never stifle the potential of another. On the contrary, true partnership is predicated on enabling and encouraging one another's fulfillment.

Joseph begins his life by imposing his own dreams on others, leaving no room for their aspirations. However, through his trials, he matures—learning to listen to, interpret, and ultimately champion the dreams of those around him.

Freedom requires a healthy framework and purpose to be productive. This is why "Let my people go" is immediately followed by "so they may serve Me." Ultimately, the highest form of liberty is found in serving the Divine rather than being subject to the whims of other humans. As the Talmud concludes: "They are My servants, and not servants to servants."
