What Makes A True Leader?

This question becomes even more important in our current climate of serious geo-political uncertainty. A time when most would believe that true and inspired leadership has never been more seriously lacking. The old adage goes, “don’t judge a book by its cover”. The reason this phrase is repeated so often is because in fact most people do. The same applies to how most people rate leaders. Most often we tend to be highly impressed with superficial qualities. Focusing primarily on style over substance. Quoting the first few words of this week's Torah portion, VeAtah tetzavah es Bai Yisrael, "And you shall command the children of Israel", the Lubavitcher Rebbe reveals perhaps the most genuine

THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME

Some words conjure up inside of us very powerful and profound feelings. The word home is one such word. All human beings long for a place they can call home. How would you define the word home? Let me suggest the following: Number one, home is a place where you can truly be yourself without any inhibition. Number two; it is a place where no matter who you are they will let you in. Instead of having individuals or smaller groups with opposing views, Facebook seems to have facilitated the building of "echo chambers" for much larger groups or movements who are insulated from other opposing views. From the beginning of history, mankind has always pushed to come together. After all, groups can solve problems more effectively than individuals. For this reason it has been the overall trend since the beginning of time.

DO YOU EVER GENUINELY LISTEN TO OTHERS?

On rare occasions does one hear a story that leaves one with a most profound impression. I would like to share with you such a story. The third Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneerson (1789-1866), had a special relationship with his youngest son Sumuel. The young boy would ensure that each and every day despite his father’s extremely busy schedule, he would spend time together with his father in his private room. Sometimes even waiting until late into the night once his father would finish the many meetings he would regularly conduct with thousands of followers seeking his wise counsel and moral support. Once, after a long such day, the boy enters his father’s room late at night. Exh
